ENGINEER THE INTERFACES
Make protection, bypass and performance explicit
A voltage optimiser is installed within an operating electrical system. The project must preserve safety, protective-device performance, fault-loop integrity, motor starting, power quality, maintainability and continuity of service.
Engineering scope
- Continuous and short-time rating basis, including growth and ambient conditions
- Electrical boundary, cable and busbar interfaces, earthing and neutral arrangements
- Prospective fault level, protection coordination and discrimination
- Output setpoint or reduction strategy and permitted tolerance
- Interlocked bypass, isolation, fail states and remote/local controls
- Metering, communications, alarms and data ownership
- Enclosure, ventilation, access, fire and maintenance requirements
- Interaction with generation, UPS, storage, capacitors and other controls
Installation planning
The installation plan defines responsibilities, outage windows, temporary arrangements, lifting/access, permits, inspection points, rollback conditions and operational communications.
Commissioning and acceptance
- Verify approved drawings, identifiers, clearances, earthing and terminations
- Test insulation, continuity, polarity, phase rotation and protection settings
- Prove bypass and isolation sequences
- Validate metering, phase mapping, clocks and data export
- Energise under controlled conditions and confirm input/output voltage
- Test representative load states, alarms, remote controls and fail conditions
- Record service performance and obtain signed acceptance
Handover
