Voltage optimisation, engineered for the way your site operates

Voltage optimisation is the controlled reduction or regulation of supply voltage within a defined electrical and operational envelope. It is not a universal efficiency measure: performance depends on supply conditions, connected loads, operating schedules, losses and the selected control strategy.

What the system does

A voltage optimisation system is installed at an agreed electrical boundary and changes the voltage presented to downstream loads. Depending on the design, the reduction may be fixed or dynamically regulated. Bypass, protection, metering and control arrangements preserve service continuity and safe operation.

Where value can arise

Some loads reduce power or energy when voltage is reduced; others maintain constant power or are already internally regulated. The achievable site result is the combined response of the actual load mix, less system losses and subject to operational constraints.

What must be assessed
  • A credible project tests the opportunity before equipment is selected.
  • Incoming and downstream voltage by phase and time
  • Load composition and voltage sensitivity
  • Minimum acceptable voltage at remote and sensitive loads
  • Transformer, switchboard, protection, earthing and bypass interfaces
  • Motor starting, unbalance, harmonics, power factor and embedded generation
  • Operational schedules, future loads and critical-service requirements
What VO does not promise

VO should not be sold as a fixed percentage reduction for every site. It should not be assumed to correct every power-quality condition, extend every asset's life or reduce the energy required by constant-power equipment. Those outcomes require a defined mechanism and appropriate evidence.
